Spina Drachtster Lyceum Drachten 2008 |
A series of seating elements designed for The Drachtster Lyceum. The elements accommodate students during their breaks, while utilities like lamp posts and flagpoles are integral to the design and create a demarcation line cutting across the work. Bins placed in pairs side-by-side act as sentries guarding the scene. One of the elements carries Rembrandt and Newton, a sculpture made by Erszebet Baerveld. With Newton holding his apple in reflection the apple tree is of course found nearby.
This line of elements creates space for students to develop the ever-important social order that exists in playgrounds, while simultaneously questioning the perception of art and the nature of everyday objects.
